Pasemuta, Chang Plao

A Friendship Grown in the Mountains

We met Chang Plao, his wife, and their daughter at a coffee festival in Bangkok back in 2016. After just one sip of his coffee, we knew there was something different going on. It had depth, character, and a kind of clarity we hadn’t tasted before.

His farm, Let Tor Glo, sits high in the mountains near the border between Thailand and Myanmar. The land is steep, green, and full of life. This is where one of our favorite coffees begins. His natural process beans have been part of our menu since that first meeting. Over the years, they’ve picked up multiple awards, all well deserved.

The soil in the area is rich and balanced, perfect for letting coffee trees take root and thrive. But it’s not just about the environment. Chang Plao puts his life into this work. His estate is small and run by the local ethnic communities who live in the area. The result is a cup that’s clean, layered, and deeply connected to place.

What started as a simple sourcing trip turned into something more. We visit Chang Plao and his family often, especially during harvest. We taste the cherries straight off the branches, sit around the fire, and share stories over home-cooked meals. There’s a real connection and a shared respect for the craft.

Working directly with producers like Chang Plao isn’t just about getting great coffee. It’s about building trust, supporting real sustainability, and helping Thai specialty coffee grow in the right direction.
